Ahhh...fishing!

We went fishing a couple of weeks ago. It rained before we got there and rained after we left, but during the "festivities" it was perfect. Poor Molly the dog. We were all gone, either on the water in canoes or kayaks and she was left behind. Being the smart border collie that she is, decided to follow the lake on the road until she could find the perfect opening to join us.

Don just happened to spot her struggling and getting more tired by the second as she swam across the lake to catch up. Pulling her up by one foot into the canoe, she rewarded everyone by shaking off and nearly capsizing the boat. Way to go Molly!

Jasper was stuck cleaning his own fish...Yuck. And no he didn't eat fish for dinner that night. Way to go Jasper!

Nuevo Llamamiento

Some of you may know that Don and I have been called on a part time Welfare Service Mission for our church. As it has turned out, our call is to serve in a Spanish branch in Ogden. At first we thought they'd made a mistake because we don't speak Spanish. But, no, here we are! It is a small branch but the people are very kind and welcoming. I have learned the art of greeting sisters by kissing on the cheek! We have been assigned to the youth who readily speak English and what Spanish I learned in college is coming back.....what a crash course!
We had to Speak in Sacrament Meeting today....what fun! I gave a little of the introduction and read scriptures in Spanish but Staci was my translator for the rest. I'm sure that was a hard job for her but she did a great job. Her dad's talk of course was much harder to translate than my dumb talk but she was a trooper.
On the program we were listed as Hermano y Hermana Maquinan...oh well - close.

Good Food

We have way too many horses. Eight to be exact. The cost of feeding them is out of sight. So last fall Don planted grass hay ... and now ... there is wonderful and luscious grass to eat. Molly the dog loves to sit and guard the horses while they eat. Look how long and wonderful this grass is! Yum!!

Race for the Cure

Saturday those of us who could, participated in the Komen Race for the Cure. We've made this an annual event in our family. Because we lost Kristi, the walk/run has special significance for us. I'm amazed at how many people turn out for event.....they estimated 18,000 people would be there, but I'm sure more than that turned out. Staci and Anne-Marie ran the miles, but Michelle, Jasper and I walked. It was so crowded there was hardly any room to move. I took a picture of the crowd.....thousands in front and thousands in back, but the picture couldn't capture the enormity of it all. They had so many people wanting to put "in memory of" tags on their backs that they ran out. We had to put "in celebration of" for Krisit. But that was OK...we celebrate her!! Afterward we enjoyed going after all the freebies they were handing out!! Yey..what a fun day!

WE LOVE YOU KRISTI

GRADUATION DAY

My little girl graduated from college today! It was a long road, but she kept with it. I've been to several graduations and this one was about as different as they come. Instead of marching in to the boring "Pomp and Circumstance", they had a group playing exciting African music. The group marched to the sound of bongo drums and chants and dancers in colorful African tutus. It was great! All week long Staci has been saying over and over, "I'm free, I'm free!"

CONGRATULATIONS STACI !!
